Revolution Superstar

from Debut by Andy Stochansky

about

I started thinking about all the revolutionary heroes that are no longer with us and how we could use them today.
It’s one thing to have a picture of a revolutionary on a T-shirt it’s another thing to actually give up everything for a cause that you believe in.
I needed a sound that was the sound of the anger inside my head and that’s the one you hear in the intro and throughout the song and that’s why the last two words of the chorus are “come back”.

I don’t see myself as a political artist and that will be evident with the other songs on this record but at that moment I wanted to get this off my chest

lyrics

Held your ground
With your sound, they tried to light your soul on fire
So you marched in the rain with no complaint
Converted all the choirs

The world will not forget your words
Fell out like soldiers
Standing now
I’d crawl across the clouds to hear you somehow

Revolution superstar
Superhero diamond heart
The spotlights on and burning
Tell us that you’re returning
Revolution superstar
Come back

No boom box
Gridlock
Your drums would move your information
So you stood all alone out there
Your poetry your delegation

The world will not forget
Your words fell out like soldiers
Hear me now
So everybody turn the sound up now

Revolution superstar…
